Captain's Letter

Christ Church Regatta draws ever nearer and we are now providing you with your entry pack. We hope that it will be an exciting and fun event for all that take part, giving novice rowers a taste of racing and hopefully encouraging them to continue rowing in terms to come.

The entry cost for each crew is Thirty Two Pounds. You must complete the entry form enclosed and return it together with your college entry fee by 6PM Wednesday 12th November in Sean S Murray’s pigeon hole. Late entries will be accepted with a £5 non-refundable surcharge until Friday, 14th November at midnight.

Entries are invited for men’s and women’s novice VIIIs only. This year, as last year, we are planning to operate a Repêchage system so that every crew gets to race at least twice. Please see rule 4 on the enclosed list for the entry restrictions. May I remind you that anyone contravening these is liable to cause the disqualification of their entire boat club.

You will be sent a copy of the draw, racing times, a map of the course and your competitors’ numbers in due course. A copy of the draw and racing times will also be posted in Christ Church Lodge and on the Christ Church Regatta Web Site, which is to be updated later this week. There will be a coxes meeting some time in Sixth week. As soon as we have more details we will let you know. All coxes must attend this meeting or they will not be allowed to compete. The Regatta circulation will not be changed from last year, but coaches or captains must also attend the coxes meeting for safety reasons.

Lastly, the proctors have asked us to inform you that participants are not to miss tutorials during the regatta. Please could you spell this out to your crews as the regatta’s continuing success depends on their support. If you have specific timing or equipment problems, please inform us on the entry form and we will do our best to accommodate you.
