Regatta Rules

1. The Regatta will take place from Wednesday 26th November to Saturday 29th November. Racing will take place from noon till dusk with the exception of Saturday, when racing will begin at 09h00.

2. Side by side races will be rowed over a buoyed course, runnng from Timm's to a finish clearly marked by a semaphore placed half way between Pembroke Boathouse and the Head of the river Public House. A staggered start may be decided on the day by the Race Committee, and will depend on stream conditions. The finish will be judged by bows.

3. CREWS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FOR LEAVING THEIR LANE AND FOR LATE ARRIVAL AT THE START

4. Eligibility restrictions are as follows:
a) Rowers who have competed in Christ Church Regatta before may not compete
b) Rowers who have competed in any Bumps race or attempted to ‘Row on’ for any Bumps race in any year may not compete
c) Rowers who have competed in any ARA, SARA or WARA event (or any foreign equivalent) at junior or senior level may not compete
d) Experienced and senior coxswains are allowed to compete and can be of either sex
e) Women may compete in the men's events but men may not compete in the women's events.
Spot checks will be carried out on the eligibility of rowers.
IF THE ORGANISERS FIND THAT AN INELIGIBLE ROWER HAS RACED, THE ENTIRE BOAT CLUB CONCERNED ARE LIABLE TO BE DISQUALIFIED

5. Crews composed of members from more than one boat club are not allowed.

6. Substitustions are allowed only in the case of injury/illness or academic clashes. Substitutions will typically be limited to three per race, unless prior permission has been sought from the Race Committee. The Race Committee must be informed, in writing, before the race, of any substitutions, otherwise the crew concerned may be liable to disqualification. The subsitutes must meet the same eligibility restrictions as above, and must not have rowed in any other crew competing in the Regatta.

7. IN ORDER TO BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE, COXES MUST ATTEND THE O.U.R.C. MEETING WHICH WILL BE HELD SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THE RACES (date and time to be announced). COXSWAINS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE WITHOUT THE WEARING OF A LIFEJACKET. Coxes are allowed to row and cox so long as the eligibility conditions above are adhered to.

8. Coxes may cox more than one crew, but personnel clashes in this case will not be taken into account when the draw is made.

9. All competitors take part at their own risk. The Committee can accept no responsibility for damage or injury, however caused.

10. All competing craft must be registered with or exempt from registration by the National Rivers Authority. All competing craft must have a bow-bobble and be fitted with heel restraints for all rowers. Crews will not be allowed to compete without them and spot checks will be conducted. All crews are required to have white lights on the front and rear of the boat after 14h00.

11. Rules for Regattas and laws of boat racing will govern the Regatta, in so far as they apply to the Isis.

12. Coaching from the bank will not be allowed; coaches follow crews to ensure safety only. If dangerous cycling along the towpath is observed, then the crew of the coach concerned will be disqualified. Please note that cyclists will not have right of way over pedestrians at any time. Only one cyclist is permitted to follow each crew. If a crew is followed by more than one coach, they will be disqualified. Coaches will not be permitted to use loud hailers or whistles at any time during racing or warm up. This is to ensure that commands from marshals and klaxons can always be heard.

13. Failure to indicate equipment and personnel clashes on the entry form will make the respective crew subject to disqualification. Every attempt will be made to timetable racing around equipment and personnel clashes up until the last sixteen. Any clashes from this point onwards will have to be resolved by the crews concerned (probably by not boat sharing), without altering the day’s racing schedule.

14. Due to the limited space available on the landing stages outside certain boathouses, crews will be given a maximum of ten minutes to boat from the time that the boat enters the water. On returning to the landing stage, crews will have ten minutes to return their boat to the boathouse to avoid congestion.

15. The circulation plans must be obeyed; crews should obey the instructions of the marshals at all times. 16. The entry fee for the Regatta is £32 per crew. Entries must be received in S S Murray's pigeon hole by 18h00 on 12th November (5th Week). Entries will be accepted up until midnight on Friday 14th November, but must be accompanied by a £5 non-refundable surcharge per crew entered late.

17. In the event that the Regatta is cancelled, the following refunds will apply:
If there is no racing: 90% of the entry fee will be refunded.
If at least one full day's racing occurs, 50% of the entry fee will be refunded.
If a crew withdraws after the draw is published, their entry fee will be retained.

18. The Regatta Committee reserves the right to alter any of the rules without notice, to cancel all or part of the Regatta without notice (usually only due to adverse weather conditions and subject to the refunding of appropriate entry fees), or to postpone any or all of the day's racing. The Committee reserves the right to disqualify without refund any boat which infringes these rules. The Committee's decision in the event of any dispute shall be final.
